The Path Made Clear
I always say everyone and everything serves a purpose. My daughter loves to question this. She will disagree and ask me things like what purpose does a tick serve?! She doesn’t like them because they bite you and take your blood. So we looked it up. They benefit the moist, dark ecosystems in which they live by serving as a food source for many reptiles, birds and amphibians. They also help control wild animal populations. So what’s your purpose?
According to Oprah Winfrey, “Your real job in life is to figure out as soon as possible what that is, who you are meant to be, and begin to honor your calling in the best way possible.”
I just finished listening to her audiobook, The Path Made Clear. I loved it! It was full of inspiring insight from various higher thinking individuals Oprah has interviewed over the years; including her own sage wisdom. She shares how and when she knew it was her last day on the job and the first day of her calling.
If we all listen closely to the whispers of our inner being we can all hear our calling. I personally think it’s when there is a blur between work and play. It is when you can do something for hours and hours and it doesn’t feel like work. As James A. Michener famously said, “The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his reaction, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both.”
The book also does a nice job illustrating how rejection is just mere redirection. We are constantly being nudged in the right direction. I’m learning the more I listen to these nudges and give up the resistance the easier it is to see the path ahead. The more I try to control things the harder it becomes.
So if you’re looking for a new read and want some inspiration I highly recommend this book. Maybe you will then discover the significance of you being here just like that teeny tiny tick!
